Action Groups and High Priority Areas
On Thursday 5 and Friday 6 February 2009 the National Quality Council met to discuss and agree to their priorities for 2009. At their April Meeting the NQC established five Action Groups to progress these priorities.
The NQC also identified five high priority areas, four of which will be progressed by the NQC Secretariat:
Training Package processes
The work under this priority area will be undertaken jointly by the NQC Secretariat and DEEWR.
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the Training Package Development and Endorsement Process
- Review the Training Package Support Materials Noting Process and make recommendations for new Quality Assured Training Resources System
- Advise DEEWR on policy content of the Training Package Development Handbook
Need and options for Graded Assessment
This priority will be progressed by the Secretariat. Initially referred
to the NQC by NSOC in 2007, this project will investigate need and
options for a national graded assessment framework.
Equity
The Secretariat will oversee implementation of an action plan based on the recommendations in the 2008 NQC report Integrating equity considerations into NQC outputs and business practices. One of the key recommendations in the report was that the NQC adopt an equity statement which articulates the equity operating pronciples to underpin all functions of the business of the Council and govern the work of those who undertake activities on its behalf.

Bradley Review Interface
This priority will be progressed by the Secretariat and will provide
the Council with strategic analysis of the recommendations in the
Review of Australian Higher Education and its impact on the work of the
NQC.
VET Workforce Development
At
its April meeting the NQC discussed the COAG referral to the
Productivity Commission focusing on capacity building of the VET
workforce. The Council agreed that its work in relation to capability
development of the VET workforce is likely to be complementary to this
and it has a role in providing advice to States and Territories on
priorities for VET workforce development.
