Overview
The VET Workforce Development Standing Committee is being established by the National Quality Council to provide advice to the Council and to give effect to the Council’s resolutions.
The Standing Committee will have the following two major roles:
- to act as the Steering Committee for the National VET Professional Capability Building Program for the purpose of providing strategic advice on the national priorities for the program; and

In its role as Steering Committee for the National VET Professional Capability Building Program the Standing Committee will:
- Provide direction to the Program Manager on the national priorities for the capability building of the VET workforce for the coming year, taking into account evaluation of previous program outcomes and advice provided by the National Senior Officials Committee, and other relevant stakeholder groups including the National Centre for Vocational Educational Research and the Advisory Alliance.
The direction will:
- take into account the current COAG agenda as well as current and emerging needs and trends; and
- focus on developing innovative and responsive approaches by VET professionals.
- Agree on the forward program developed by the Program Manager to ensure its alignment with the agreed national priorities and the Principles and Protocols for Program Management.
- Consider the outcomes from the National VET Professional Capability Building Program from the previous calendar year.
To facilitate a national, strategic approach to capability building of the VET workforce the Standing Committee will:
- Identify the component groups in the national VET workforce to be included in the scope of the National VET Workforce Development Strategy
- Develop and monitor the implementation of the National VET Workforce Development Strategy
- Ensure appropriate linkages and synergies between provision of strategic advice on national priorities to the Program Manager of the National VET Capability Building Program and the NQC Work Plan
In its role of overseeing the VET Workforce Development area of focus in the NQC Work Plan the Standing Committee will:
- Give effect to, and expedite Council resolutions in relation to VET Workforce Development initiatives
- Provide strategic oversight and guidance to NQC project work, including contractual requirements
- Establish, as necessary, and provide guidance to working groups set up to develop, trial and implement VET Workforce Development initiatives within the NQC Work Plan
